A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF ST.
LUClE COUNTY, FLORIDA, SUPPORTING THE FLORIDA FOREVER
PROGRAM AND OPPOSING ANY FUTURE STATE LEGISLATIVE EFFORTS
TO UTILIZE FLORIDA FOREVER FUNDS FOR OTHER STATE PROGRAMS
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida, has made the
following determinations:
1. St. Lucie County adopted the St. Lucie County Comprehensive Plan by Ordinance 02-
008;
The adopted comprehensive plan contains objectives and polices which support the
acquisition of conservation and recreation lands that protect natural resources and
provide, including native plant communities and endangered and threatened plant and
animal species;
On November 8, 1994, the voters of St. Lucie County approved a Twenty Million
($20,000,000.00) Dollar Bond Issue for the purpose of acquiring environmentally
significant lands.
St. Lucie County has utilized the Preservation 2000 and Florida Forever programs to
share the costs of acquiring local conservation and recreation lands and has active
projects that are dependent on continued funding.
5. Since 2001, the Florida legislative session has included efforts to redirect the remaining
Preservation 2000 and Florida Forever funds to other state programs.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie
County, Florida:
St. Lucie County urges legislators to ensure any remaining Preservation 2000
funds and all existing and future Florida Forever funds are utilized for the
acquisition of conservation and recreation lands, and oppose any effort to
reallocate funding for conservation and recreation lands to other state programs;
St. Lucie County urges legislative authorities that have oversight of the utilization
of the Florida Forever funds to ensure these funds are utilized for the protection
of Florida's natural areas and wildlife and the provision of open space and
recreation areas throughout Florida.
