A RESOLU'I-J:ON OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY
COMM'rss'rONERS OF ST. LUC3:E COUNTY SUPPORT'J:NG
'rNCREASEb STATE FUND'rNG FOR REG'rONAL PLANN'rNG
COUNCILS
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners, St. Lucia County, strongly supports
adequate funding of regional planning councils in the 5tare of Florida; and,
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners, St. Lucia County, recognizes that
regional planning councils are required to perform numerous state-mandated economic
development, growth management, emergency management, technical assistance, interlocal
dispute resolution functions, and other important statutory duties directed by the
Legislature; and,
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners, St. Lucia County, recognizes that
regional planning councils also provide a wide range of services and assistance in support of
local government initiatives and programs; and,
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners, St. Lucia County, believes the State
is disproportionately relying on local dues and revenue from local government to support
regional planning councils which hos resulted in the reduction of many regional and local
programs and initiatives; and,
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners, St. Lucia County, believes the State's
responsibility for supporting regional planning councils should be increosed and shared more
equally between the 5tare and its local governments.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE ]:T RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners, St.
Lucia County, Florida, that:
Section 1. The Board of County Commissioners, St. Lucia County, hereby requests
the Legislature support the Florida Regional Councils Association budget request for
recurring funding for regional planning councils os a $3 million line item in the Department of
Community Affairs bose budget.
Section 2. The County Administrator is directed to distribute copies of this
resolution to the Honorable Governor ,Tab Bush; the St. Lucia County Legislative Delegation;
Department of Community Affair's 5ecretam/Steve 5eibert; and the Executive Director of
the Florida Regional Councils Association.
Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon adoption.
