HomeMy WebLinkAbout09/02/04A DEeLARATZON OF THE FORT PIERCE POI TeE CHIEF DEeLARIN~ A STATE OF LOCAL EMER~ENC'Y IN THE C-Z'I-Y OF FORT PIERCE (HURRTCANE FRANCES) WHEREAS, the Fort Pierce Police Chief has made the following determinations: 1. Pursuant to Section 870.042, Florida Statutes, the Police Chief has the power to declare a state of emergency within the City of Fort Pierce to provide for the health and safety of persons and property and to exercise the emergency powers conferred in ,Sections 870.041 - 870.047, Florida Statutes. The National Hurricane Center has identified Hurricane Frances as a Category 4 hurricane and has issued a Hurricane Warning for the east coast of Florida, including St. Lucia County. 3. The presence of Hurricane Frances has placed the City of Fort Pierce in a state of emergency, exposing the citizens thereof to the threat of imminent violence and to danger to life and property. 4. ]:n order to respond to such emergency, upon this declaration, the Police Chief is authorized to initiate and toke such actions authorized by state law during the term of such local state of emergency. 5. A state of emergency is declared in the City of Fort Pierce effective immediately upon signing this ~ day of September 2004, at kl/ ~____.m. 6. Such Declaration shall remain in full force and effect for seventy-two (72) hours unless extended in seventy-two (7?) hour increments with the concurrence of the Fort Pierce City Commission or sooner rescinded by the Fort Pierce City Commission, the C~overnor or the Police Chief. 7. This Order shell, os promptly as practicable, be filed in the office of the City Clerk and delivered to the appropriate news media for publication and radio and television broadcast thereof.
