THE CTTY OF FORT PIERCE
(HURRICANE ~EANNE)
WHEREAS, the Fort Pierce Police Chief has made the following determinations:
1. Pursuant to Section 870.042, Florida Statutes, the Police Chief has the
power to declare a state of emergency within the City of Fort Pierce to provide for the
health and safety of persons and property and to exercise the emergency powers
conferred in Sections 870.041 - 870.047, Florida Statutes.
2. The National Hurricane Center has identified Hurricane ,Teanne as a
Category 2 hurricane and has issued a Hurricane Warning for the east coast of Florida,
including St. Lucia County.
3. The presence of Hurricane ,Teanne has placed the City of Fort Pierce in a
state of emergency, exposing the citizens thereof to the threat of imminent violence and
to danger to life and property.
4. In order to respond to such emergency, upon this declaration, the Police
Chief is authorized to initiate and take such actions authorized by state law during the
term of such local state of emergency.
5. A state of eme~,g/ency is declared in the City of Fort Pierce effective
immediately upon signing thief- day of September 2004, at/~~ I~ .m.
6. Such beclaration shall remain in full force and effect for seventy-two (72)
hours unless extended in seventy-two (72) hour increments with the concurrence of the
Fort Pierce City Commission or sooner rescinded by the Fort Pierce City Commission, the
Governor or the Police Chief.
7. This Order shall, as promptly as practicable, be filed in the office of the
City Clerk and delivered to the appropriate news media f~.~_~blication and radio and
television broadcast thereof. ~C
