RESOLUTION NO. 04-326
A RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING THE
WEEK OF NOVEMBER 7, 2004,
THROUGH NOVEMBER 13, 2004, AS
"VETERANS AWARENESS WEEK" IN
ST. LUCIE COUNTY, FLORIDA
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida,
has made the following determinations:
1. On October 11, 2004, the United States 108th Congress, 2d Session, passed
Senate Resolution 401, designating the week of November 7, 2004, through November
13, 2004, as National Veterans Awareness Week. The resolution calls for educational
efforts directed at elementary and secondary school students concerning the
contributions and sacrifices of veterans.
2. National Veterans Awareness Week is meant to complement Veterans Day by
focusing on education as well as commemoration, on the contributions of the many, in
addition to the heroism and service of the individual.
3. National Veterans Awareness Week also presents an opportunity to remind
ourselves of the contributions and sacrifices of those who have served in peacetime as
well as in conflict. Both groups work unending hours and spend long periods away
from their families under conditions of great discomfort so that we all can live in a land
of freedom and plenty.
4. America's tragedy of 9/11 has left a permanent scar within, has brought
Americans even closer together, has given us a greater appreciation for our veterans by
never forgetting them for their sacrifices and often loss of life, and by them preserving
liberty and freedom for all.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County
Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida.
1. This Board does hereby proclaim the week of November 7, 2004, through
November 13, 2004, as "VETERANS AWARENESS WEEK" in St. Lucie County,
Florida.
2. This Board extends its' appreciation to each and every United States military
man and woman for admirably fighting for and maintaining our freedoms, and urges
the citizens of St. Lucie County to honor the commitment of our Veterans - past,
present, and future.
PASSED AND DULY ADOPTED this 9th day of November, 2004.
