RESOLUTION NO. 05-105
A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING EXTENSION OF THE
GOVERNOR'S EXECUTIVE ORDER 04-028, AS EXTENDED,
TO AUTHORIZE THE RELEASE OF COMMUNITY
DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANT DISASTER RECOVERY
INITIA TIVE FUNDING
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida, has made
the following determinations:
1. Congress has allocated $100,000,000.00 in funding to the State of Florida
pursuant to the Military Construction Appropriations and Emergency Hurricane Supplemental
Appropriations Act to assist in recovery from federally declared disasters that occurred
between August 31, 2003 and October 1, 2004.
2. These federal funds will be made available for disaster relief, long-term
recovery, economic development, infrastructure improvements and mitigation directly related
to the effects of the disasters.
3. Upon release of the federal funds, St. Lucie County, the City of Fort Pierce and
the City of Port St. Lucie will receive an allocation of $9,000,000.00 through the Community
Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery Initiative Funding.
4. These funds will prove essential to the disaster recovery and restoration
efforts within St. Lucie County and the Cities.
5. In order for these funds to be released by April 11, 2005, the Governor's
Executive Order must be extended on or before April 4, 2005. Failure to extend the Order
by this date will result in delay of the release of the funds until after July 1, 2005, which
would severely restrict the ability of the County and the Cities to proceed with their recovery
efforts.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of St.
Lucie County, Florida:
1. This Board does hereby support the further extension of Executive Order 04-
248, as extended, in order to ensure the timely release of the Community Development Block
Grant Disaster Recovery Initiative Funding.
2. The County Administrator is hereby directed to forward a copy of this
resolution to members of the St. Lucie County Legislative Delegation and members of the
Florida Legislature.
