RESOLUTION NO. 05-342
A RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING
SEPTEMBER 17, 2005, AS "POW¡MIADAY
OF REMEMBRANCE" FOR THOSE WHO
SUFFERED AS PRISONERS OF WAR OR
ARE STILL MISSING AS A RESULT OF THE
VIETNAM WAR
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida, has
made the following determinations:
1. The Florida State Council of Vietnam Veterans of America has proclaimed
September 17, 2005, as the official POW/MIA Remembrance Day for those who
suffered as prisoners of war or are still missing as a result of the Vietnam War.
2. At 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 17, 2005, the Vietnam Veterans
of America, Chapter 566, St. Lucie County, will be having the Fourteenth Annual
POW/MIA Recognition Candlelight Service at Veterans' Memorial Park on Midport Road
in Port St. Lucie, Florida.
3. It is fitting that P~WS and MIAs from all wars will be appropriately
remembered at this Candlelight Service.
4. This Board believes all Americans should recognize the special debt we
owe our fellow citizens who, in the act of serving our Nation, relinquished their freedom
so that we may enjoy the blessings of peace and liberty.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Board of County Commissioners
of St. Lucie County, Florida:
1. This Board does hereby proclaim September 17, 2005, as "POW ¡MIA
DAY OF REMEMBRANCE" for those who suffered as prisoners of war or are still
missing as a result of the Vietnam War.
2. This Board urges the citizens of St. Lucie County to attend the Fourteenth
Annual POW/MIA Recognition Candlelight Service on September 17,2005, at 7:30 p.m.
at the Veterans' Memorial Park on Midport Road in Port St. Lucie, Florida, to pay tribute
to the POW/MIAs of the Vietnam War and all prior wars.
PASSED AND DULY ADOPTED this 6th day of September, 2005.
