RESOLUTION NO. 07-101
A RESOLUTION HONORING COMMISSIONER
JOSEPH E. SMITH WHO HAS BEEN CHOSEN
FOR HIS POSITIVE IMPACT ON THE
TREASURE COAST, AND REPRESENTING ST.
LUCIE COUNTY AS A YOUNG AFRICAN-
AMERICAN "MAKING A DIFFERENCE IN OUR
COMMUNITY"
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie
County, Florida, has made the following determinations:
1. Commissioner Joseph E. Smith is a lifelong resident of
St. Lucie County who has made a number of contributions to the
county.
2. As a student in high school he recei ved the Bronze
congressional Award, the National Society of the Daughters of the
American Revolution Good Citizen Award and the coveted Young
Floridian Award in music.
3. While serving as a grassroots manager for the Episcopal
Public policy Network (EPPN), Mr. Smith directed advocacy
strategies for the Episcopal Church, U. S. A.
As a registered
lobbyist, he met with U. S. Senators and Representatives to address
issues as the fight against domestic poverty, the protection of our
environment and global funding of HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment
programs.
4. Commissioner Smith is a member of the NAACP, graduate of
the St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office, member of the University of
Central Florida Alumni Association, and a mentor with Big
Brothers/Big Sisters.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County
Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida, that this Board does
hereby Honor Commissioner Joseph E. Smith who has been chosen for
his positive impact on the Treasure Coast, and representing St.
Lucie County as a young African-American "MAKING A DIFFERENCE IN
OUR COMMUNITY".
