RESOLUTION NO. 07-010
A RESOLUTION OF THE ST. LUCIE COUNTY EROSION DISTRICT
AUTHORIZING THE SUBMITTAL OF A REQUEST TO THE FLORIDA
DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION FOR FUNDING
ASSISTANCE UNDER THE FLORIDA BEACH EROSION CONTROL
PROGRAM FOR THE SOUTH ST. LUCIE COUNTY BEACH AND DUNE
RESTORATION AND MAINTENANCE PROJECT; SETTING FORTH
FINDINGS; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the Erosion District Board of St. Lucie County, Florida ("District") supports the Florida
Department of Environmental Protection's ("DEP") beach and coastal management program; and,
WHEREAS, in September 2004, St. Lucie County suffered the impact of Hurricane's Frances and
Jeanne that produced high waves and storm surge and inflicted substantial damage to the shoreline,
upland property and infrastructure; and,
WHEREAS, the District is believes that the South St. Lucie County beach and dune system is in
need of restoration and maintenance; and,
WHEREAS, the South St. Lucie County Beach and Dune project area is recognized by the
Department as a "critically eroded" shoreline; and,
WHEREAS, the District is willing to serve as local sponsor and provide the local funding share
required to implement beach and dune restoration and maintenance projects authorized under the
provisions of Section 161,101, Florida Statutes.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Erosion District Board of St. Lucie County, Florida, as
follows:
1, The District supports the South St. Lucie County Beach and Dune Restoration and
Maintenance project and is willing to serve as local sponsor and will provide the necessary local funding to
implement said project.
2, This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
