RESOLUTION NO. 07-296
A RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING SEPTEMBER 25, 2007, AS
"QVC DAY" IN ST. LUCIE COUNTY, FLORIDA
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County,
Florida, has made the following determinations:
1. Due to the combined efforts of the St. Lucie County Chamber of
Commerce, the State of Florida, St. Lucie County, the City of Port St.
Lucie, other local governments and agencies and members of our local
community, QVC opened its fourth Call Center here eight years ago.
2. The complex and cutting edge incentive package that convinced
QVC to locate here was negotiated primarily by Doug Anderson, St. Lucie
County Administrator, and Don Cooper, Port St. Lucie City Manager, and
was approved by both the Port St. Lucie City Council and St. Lucie County
Board of County Commissioners.
The groundwork that was laid then has
become the model for co-operation in our economic development efforts and
has contributed to the national exposure for our area, the results of
which are evident for all to see as we recruit and develop the biotech
industry.
3. As one of the first Job Growth Investment Grants approved by
St. Lucie County, the County's initial investment of $1 million has been
paid back numerous times. Today, on an over eight acre site, in a 50,000
square foot building with a taxable value of $6.8 million, QVC employs
more than 1,000 people, of which 91% reside in St. Lucie County. During
the past eight years, QVC's cumulative payroll is more than $109 million,
which has generated a community impact of over $600 million.
4. QVC has raised the standard of employment in St. Lucie County
by instilling a sense of customer service and pride in its employees,
providing a benefits package that is second to none and becoming deeply
involved in our community.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE :IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners
of St. Lucie County, Florida:
1. This Board thanks the City of Port St. Lucie, the other local
governments and our entire community for coming together to bring QVC to
St. Lucie County.
2. This Board thanks QVC for adding St. Lucie County to the QVC
family and for being such a wonderful corporate partner.
3. This Board does hereby proclaim September 25, 2007, as "QVC
DAY" in St. Lucie County, Florida.
