HomeMy WebLinkAbout08-069 t! {' ; d C ('-it or. ,"'/,",; RESOLUTION NO. 08-069 A RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING FEBRUARY 17, 2008, THROUGH FEBRUARY 23, 2008, AS "ENGINEER'S WEEK" IN ST. LUCIE COUNTY, FLORIDA WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida, has made the following determinations: 1. National Engineer's Week was founded in 1951 by the National Society of Professional Engineers as an annual event to raise public awareness of engineers and their accomplishments. 2. Thousands of engineers throughout the United States will sponsor a variety of public activities from technology exhibits to student competitions during this week. 3. Engineers have used their scientific and technical knowledge and skills in creative and innovative ways to fulfill society's needs. 4. Engineers face the major technological challenges of our time - from rebuilding towns devastated by natural disasters to designing an information superhighway that will speed our country into this new century. 5. Engineers are encouraging our young math and science students to realize the practical power of their knowledge. 6. This Board believes that we will look more than ever to engineers and their knowledge and skills to meet the challenges of the future. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida, that this Board does hereby proclaim the week of February 17, 2008, through February 23, 2008, as "ENGINEER'S WEEK" in St. Lucie County, Florida.
