RESOLUTION NO. 08-078
A RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING THE WEEK OF
MARCH 16, 2008, THROUGH MARCH 22,
2008, AS "SURVEYORS WEEK" IN ST.
LUCIE COUNTY, FLORIDA
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie
County, Florida, has made the following determinations:
1. Land surveyors are counted among the founding leaders of
our country and were instrumental in the formation of the layout of
property boundaries in the United States which have provided our
citizens the enjoyment of property ownership.
2. George Washington and Thomas Jefferson, along with other
former Presidents of the United States, served their fellow
colonists as surveyors.
3.
The
citizens
of
Florida
recognize
the
valuable
contributions of the surveying profession to history, development,
and quality of life in Florida and the United States of America,
and make important decisions based on the knowledge and expertise
of licensed surveyors and mappers.
4. The surveying profession requires special education,
training, the knowledge of mathematics, the related physical and
applied sciences, and requirements of law for evidence.
5. Surveyors are uniquely qualified and licensed to
determine and describe land and water boundaries for the management
of natural resources and protection of private and public property
rights.
6. The continual advancements ln instrumentation have
required the surveyor not only to be able to understand and
implement the methods of the past, but also to learn and employ
modern technology in finding solutions to meet the challenges of
the future.
7. In conjunction with National Surveyors Week, the Governor
and Cabinet of the State of Florida have proclaimed the week of
March 16, 2008, through March 22, 2008, as Florida Surveyors Week.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County
Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida:
1. This Board does hereby proclaim the week of March 16,
2008, through March 22, 2008, as "SURVEYORS WEEK" in St. Lucie
County, Florida.
2. This Board does hereby recognize the many contributions
and the ongoing dedication of surveyors to the citizens of St.
Lucie County, the State of Florida, and the Uni ted States of
America.
PASSED AND DULY ADOPTED this 11th day of March, 2008.
