RESOLUTION NO. 08-167
A RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING MAY 10,
2008, THROUGH MAY 18, 2008, AS
"TOURISM WEEK" IN ST. LUCIE COUNTY,
FLORIDA
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie
County, Florida, has made the following determinations:
1. Travel is at the heart of America's economic and national
security.
2. Travel is one of America's largest service exports
creating a travel trade surplus in excess of eight billion dollars,
and is one of the nation's largest employers accounting for more
than seven and a half million direct travel-generated jobs, or one
in every eight u. S. Non-farm jobs.
3. Including the direct spending in the U. S. by domestic
and international visitors, travel and tourism generated seven
hundred and forty billion dollars last year, providing one hundred
ten billion dollars in tax revenue to local, state and federal
governments.
4. The travel industry supports the interests of St. Lucie
County, çontributing to our employment, economic prosperity,
international trade and relations, peace, understanding and
goodwill.
5. Travel ranks as one of St. Lucie County's largest
industries in terms of revenues generated, and provided employment
for over seven thousand people in St. Lucie County, generating a

payroll of over twenty-nine million dollars.
6. As people throughout the world become increasingly aware
of the outstanding cultural and recreational opportunities
available in St. Lucie County and throughout the United States,
travel will become an increasingly vi tal resource in improving
America's image around the world and an extension of our public
diplomacy.
7. Given these laudable contributions to the economic,
social and cultural well-being of the citizens of St. Lucie County,
it is fitting that we recognize the importance of the American
travel industry.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County
Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida:
1. This Board does hereby proclaim May 10, 2008, through May
18, 2008, as uTOURISM WEEK" in St. Lucie County, Florida.
2. This Board urges the citizens of St. Lucie County to
observe this week with appropriate ceremonies and activities.
PASSED AND DULY ADOPTED this 13th day of May, 2008.
