RESOLUTION NO. 08-193
A RESOLUTION AMENDING RESOLUTION
NO. 86-173, AS AMENDED, BY AMENDING
THE EMPLOYEE HANDBOOK FOR EMPLOYEES
OF ST. LUCIE COUNTY, FLORIDA
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida, has made
the following determinations:
1. By Resolution No. 86-173, adopted September 16, 1986, and subsequently amended,
the. Board of County Commissioners adopted the Employee Handbook for employees of St.
Lucie County in order to update personnel policies to reflect changes in the federal and state
law and provide each employee with essential information regarding personnel polities and
benefits.
2. It is necessary to further amend Resolution No. 86-173 to update the Employee
Handbook regarding temporary aSSignments.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of St.
Lucie County, Florida:
1. Resolution No. 86-173, as amended, is hereby further amended to incorporate the
amendments to the following section of the Employee Handbook, attached hereto and
incorporated herein as Exhibit "A"
2. This resolution Shall be effective on the date of adoption.

SECTION 1 - YOUR EMPLOYMENT

TEMPORARY ASSIGNMENTS
Section 1
The County shall not be prevented from temporarily assigning or appointing any employee to
perform work which would normally be done by an employee in another classification, when,
in the discretion of the County, such assignment or appointment is necessary.
Section 2
An employee temporarily assigned to perform work outside his normal classification shall
suffer no loss of pay should said temporary assignment be to a lower classification.
Section 3
An el1'\plo}'ee who is temporarily assigned to a position in a higher classification shall be paid
his regular rate of pay for the first five (5) consecuti'v'e calendar days. If such assignl1'\ent
continues beyond five (5) consecutive calendar days, he shall receive fi'v'e percent (5 'Yo) above
his regular rate of payor the minimum of the higher classification, whichever is greater.
In. the e"lentthat the County has been. notified by the el"ployee whose position is. being
temporarily filled that his absence will extend beyondfi'.;e (5) consecuti'v'e calendar days
prior to thefirst date of such absence or as soon thereafter as possible in the event of
illness or emergency. The County shall pay the employee temporarily assigned to fill the
position at the ITlinilT\Um of the higher classification or five percent (5%) above his regular
rate of PC3:'y'i Whichever is greater, beginning on the first da.f of the temporary assignment.
If the temporary assignment extends. beyond five (5'Yo) consecutive calendar days, the
Coul'\tyshall pay the elT\ployee receiving the temporary assignment at such higher rate of pay
rdroacti.v'ely for the first five (5) consecutive calendar days of thetelTlporary assignment.
This section shall not apply where the distinction in classification is based primarily on
experience or years of ser'v'ice.
