RESOLUTION NO. 08-221
'A RESOLUTION TO BE PRESENTED TO THE
FAMILY OF CORPORAL IAN T. ZOOK,
PROCLAIMING JULY 18, 2008, AS
uCORPORAL IAN T. ZOOK DAY" IN ST.
LUCIE COUNTY, FLORIDA, AS A TRIBUTE
TO THIS FALLEN HERO WHO MADE THE
ULTIMATE SACRIFICE FOR FREEDOM
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of St, Lucie
County, Florida, has made the following determinations:
1, Ian T, Zook grew up in St. Lucie County and after
graduating from Faith Baptist Christian School in 1999 as
Valedictorian of his class, he attended Bible College fòr a year.
2. After that year Ian decided to enlist in theU, S, Marine
Corps and, upon completion of his service in the military, was
planning to follow in his father's footsteps and pursue a career in
law enforcement,
3. Ian T. Zook knew the true meaning of the word HONOR, He
honored his parents and teachers, In Merriam-Webster's Colleqiate
Thesaurus, the word Honor as a noun is defined as "respect or
esteem shown one as his due rank". Continuing, related words for
the word Honor are described as "admiration, esteem, adoration,
adulation,
devotion,
veneration,
worship,
acknowledgment,
compliment, recognition, regard, respect,"
4, Ian served his community and country, and demonstrated
his faith everyday.
5, Ian T, Zook was assigned to pt Battalion, 7th Marine
Regiment, pt Marine Division, 1 Marine Expeditionary Force, Marine
Corps Air Ground Combat Center Twentynine Palms, California,
6, In September of 2004, Ian narrowly escaped death when his
Humvee ran over a mine while going to rescue wounded soîdiers in
Anbar Province, Iraq,
7 . After a promotion to the rank of Corporal, Ian called his
family and said "Now we have two corporals ln the family",
referring to his father, Mark Zook, who has been a member of the
Florida Highway Patrol for nineteen years and currently is ranked
as a Corporal.
8, Ian T, Zook had been stationed in Iraq for a little over
two months as a Corporal with the pt Battalion, 7th Marines, and pt
Marine Division when he was killed from a Missile attack in Al
Anbar Province, Iraq on October 12, 2004,
9. He is survived by his Mother, Karen Zook; Father, Mark
Zook; Sisters, Amy R. Zook and Faith Zook; and Brother Alexander M,
Zook. He was 24,
,NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County
Commissioners of St, Lucie County, Florida:
1. This Board does hereby proclaim July 18, 2008 as
"Corporal Ian T. Zook Day" in St. Lucie County, Florida, as a
tribute to this fallen hero who made the ultimate sacrifice for
Freedom,
2. A copy of this resolution shall be presented to Mr. &
Mrs, Mark Zook as a token of this Board's deepest sympathy at the
loss of their son, Corporal Ian T, Zook, and in sincere
appreciation for his service to his country,
PASSED AND DULY ADOPTED this 15th day of July, 2008.
