HomeMy WebLinkAbout08-222 .~ RESOLUTION NO. 08-222 A RESOLUTION TO BE PRESENTED TO THE FAMILY OF CAPTAIN ADAM P. SNYDER, PROCLAIMING JULY 19, 2008, AS "CAPTAIN ADAM P. SNYDER DAY" IN ST. LUCIE COUNTY, FLORIDA, AS A TRIBUTE TO THIS FALLEN HERO WHO MADE THE ULTIMATE SACRIFICE FOR FREEDOM WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of St, Lucie County, Florida, has made the following determinations: 1, Adam p, Snyder grew up in Fort Pierce, and in High School at Lincoln Park Academy was crowned homecoming King and named ~Mr, LPA" (Lincoln Park Academy), after making a speech on why he should be picked and answering a trivia question about his school, 2. During his senior year of high school, Adam Snyder tried out for a part in the play ~The Music Man", He expected to get a srnall role but was so good, he ended up landing the lead role beating a couple hundred kids in the county, 3. Snyder's popularity among his classmates at Lincoln Park Academy resonates throughout pages of his 2000 high school yearbook. On a page of his year book entitled ~People Most Likely To Achieve," Snyder was chosen as 'Most Likely to Appear on the Cover of Entertainment Weekly'" - Adam Snyder wins tony for ~Music Man" . 4, Adam was very active in the youth group at his church, Westside Baptist in Fort Pierce, and during a Christmas play at the church, Snyder recited from memory a narration of the names of God found throughout the Bible which kept the audience spellbound, , . t._$o- 5. After graduation from high school, Adam received a Congressional Nomination to the Air Force Academy from former Senator Bob Graham and received a nomination to West Point from fOrmer Congressman Mark Foley, 6. Adam wanted to become a pilot in the Army but his vision wasn't quite strong enough for him to qualify, so he chose to attend West Point, In 2004, Adam Snyder graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point, 7, Adam P. Snyder loved everyone and knew the true meaning of the word LEA])ER, In Merriam-Webster' s Colleqiate Thesaurus, the word Leader as a noun is defined as "one that takes the lead or ini tia ti ve". 8 , Adam p, Snyder joined the Army and was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment, pt Brigade Combat Team, 10pt Airborne Division, (Air Assault) in Fort Campbell, Kentucky, 9, In 2005-2006 he served 12 months in Iraq, In 2007, he was promoted to Captain and returned to Iraq in September to serve a 15-month tour of duty, 10, After Captain Snyder had only been in Iraq for a little over 2 months of his second duty in Iraq, he and two other servicemen in his platoon were in an Army Humvee when their vehicle encountered an Improvised Explosive Device by a roadside in Bayji, Iraq, Both servicemen in the vehicle died on that day, 11, Captain Adam p, Snyder was taken to a military hospital in Balad, Iraq with severe burns, and suffered three cardiac arrests before he died on December 5, 2007. He is survived by his , ~ Mother, Fran Frazer¡ Step-Father, Larry Frazer¡ his Father, Joseph Snyder¡ his Step-Mother, Cathy Snyder¡ and Brother, Evan Frazer, He was 26, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida: 1. This Board does hereby proclaim July 19, 2008, as UCaptain Adam P Snyder Day" in St, Lucie County, Florida, as a tribute to this fallen hero who made the ultimate sacrifice for Freedom, 2" A copy of this resolution shall be presented to Mr. & Mrs. Larry Fraser, and Mr. & Mrs, Joseph Snyder as a token of this Board's deepest sympathy at the loss of their son, Captain Adam P.
