LUCIE COUNTY, FLORIDA, SUPPORTING THE NATIONAL HEALTH INSURANCE ACT; PROVIDING FOR TRANSMITTAL OF COPIES OF THE RESOLUTION; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida, has made the following determinations: 1. Floridians face a continuing crisis in the accessibility and affordability of health care, with yearly insurance premiums increasing at a rate much greater than the general inflation rate. 2. Representative John Conyers has introduced the "United States National Health Insurance Act," (H.R. 676), which has 91 other co-sponsors, including Representative Alcee L. Hastings. H.R. 676 would include benefits for the entire family, access to quality health care whether you have a job or not, complete choice of doctors and hospitals, and no bills or paperwork or out-of- pocket expenses. 3. It is reported that universal health care would cost much less than the private insurance system, and the National Coalition on Health Care recently reported that implementing a universal health care system (like H.R. 676) would save Americans $1.1 trillion over the first 10 years of implementation. 4. Over 100 unions and local, regional, and national labor bodies support the adoption of H.R. 676. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida: 1. St. Lucie County supports the National Health Insurance Act. 2. The St. Lucie County Administrator is authorized and directed to send copies of this Resolution to members of the St. Lucie County Federal Legislative Delegation, and Congressman John Conyers. 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption. PASSED AND DULY ADOPTED this 19th day of August, 2008. ATTEST: BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS ST. LUCIE COUNTY, FLORIDA By~rlli .
