RESOLUTION NO. 08-265
A RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING SEPTEMBER 9, 2008, AS
"FAMILY LITERACY DAY" IN ST. LUCIE COUNTY,
FLORIDA
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie
County, Florida, has made the following determinations:
1. Reading literacy and proficiency are the key factors in
predicting the future success of students and adults.
2. A person with reading skills has' seemingly endless
possibilities and potentialities,
3, According to the National Institute for Literacy, twenty-
five percent (25%) of adults in St. Lucie County currently lack the
basic literacy skills required for a typical job, and face a
significantly more limited future,
4, St. Lucie County recognizes and appreciates the value and
long-term effect of reading literacy.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County
Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida:
1. This Board does hereby proclaim September 9, 2008, as
"FAMILY LITERACY DAY" in St. Lucie County, Florida.
2. This Board urges the citizens of St. Lucie County to
become involved in reading to or with our young people and each
other,
