A RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING THE MONTH
OF JANUARY 2009, AS "ST. LUCIE
COUNTY'S DOWNTOWN FORT PIERCE
FARMERS' MARKET MONTH" IN ST. LUCIE
COUNTY, FLORIDA
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie
County, Florida, has made the following determinations:
1, The Downtown Farmers' Market of Fort pierce began
operation in January 1997, at the waterfront in Downtown Fort
Pierce,
2. The Market's mission has been to provide healthy, fresh
foods and horticultural products to St,
Lucie County and
surrounding areas, and to encourage commerce, entertainment and
trade in Downtown Fort Pierce,
3. The Market is operated by an independent, not-for-profit,
Board of Directors, whose Board members represent a broad segment
of the Treasure Coast.
4. The Market has operated continuously in Downtown Fort
Pierce, at first seasonally, and in the last four years, year-
round,
5, The Market 1.S attracting several thousand people to
downtown Fort pierce each week, Attractions and events in Downtown
Fort pierce and St. Lucie County are promoted each week at the
Market.
6. The Market operates, rain or shine, and showcases a
variety of local entertainers who perform weekly at the Market,
7, The Market is funded by market vendor fees, with support
from the City of Fort Pierce, Fort pierce Redevelopment Agency and
St. Lucie County Cultural Affairs Council, as well as advertising
and publicity from the Fort pierce Tribune and the Palm Beach Post,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County
Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida:
1, This Board does hereby proclaim the month of January,
2009, as uST. LUCIE COUNTY'S DOWNTOWN FORT PIERCE FARMERS' MARKET
MONTH" in St, Lucie County, Florida.
2. This Board urges all citizens of St. Lucie County,
Florida, all C1V1C and fraternal groups, all educational and
community associations, and all news media, to join in this salute
by encouraging and promoting the celebration of the achievements of
St. Lucie County's Downtown Farmers' Market of Fort pierce and its
loyal vendors, patrons and supporters.
