A RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING OCTOBER 29, 2008, AS
"FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS PROBATION
AND PAROLE OFFICERS AND EMPLOYEES DAY" IN ST.
LUCIE COUNTY, FLORIDA; AND FURTHER RECOGNIZING
THE CELEBRATION OF AN AWARDS CEREMONY TO HONOR
THESE DEDICATED INDIVIDUALS WHICH WILL TAKE
PLACE ON WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 29, 2008, IN THE
COMMISSION CHAMBERS OF THE ST. LUCIE COUNTY
BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS AT 2300 VIRGINIA
AVENUE, 3rd FLOOR, OF THE ROGER POITRAS
ADMINISTRATION ANNEX BUILDING IN FORT PIERCE,
FLORIDA
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie
County, Florida, has made the following determinations:
1. The mission of the Florida Department of Corrections,
probation & Parole Services staff is to protect the public safety,
to ensure the safety of their personnel, and to provide proper care
and supervision of all offenders under their jurisdiction while
assisting their reentry into society.
2. State probation & Parole Officers and staff evaluate
offender progress and recommend intensity of supervision, based on
observations from time of conviction through the period of
adjustment, after release from an institution.
They also assist
offenders in securing jobs, maintain contacts with business
organizations and employment agencies, and arrange employment
interviews.
3. The State Probation & Parole Officers and staff also
counsel and refer offenders to specialized treatment services at
guidance clinics, mental health clinics, and related organizations.
They record resti tution payments, cost of supervision, court cos.ts,
as well as other related paymentsi maintain an awareness of the
offenders' daily activities, and visit offenders at home, at work,
and at planned activities.
4. The 19th Circui t has 100 State Probation and Parole Staff,
with 47 working in St. Lucie County. Circuit wide, they supervise
5,038 offenders, and in St. Lucie County they supervise 2,704
offenders.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County
Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida:
1. This Board does hereby proclaim October 29, 2008, as
"FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS PROBATION AND PAROLE OFFICERS
AND EMPLOYEES DAY" in St. Lucie County, Florida.
2. This Board further recognizes the celebration of an
awards ceremony to honor these dedicated individuals on Wednesday,
October 29, 2008, in the Commission Chambers of the St. Lucie
County Board of County Commissioners.
PASSED AND DULY ADOPTED this 28th day of October, 2008.
