RESOLUTION NO. 08-310
A RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING THE MONTH
OF NOVEMBER, 2008, AS "ALZHEIMER'S
DISEASE AWARENESS MONTH" IN ST.
LUCIE COUNTY, FLORIDA
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie
County, Florida, has made the following determinations:
1. Alzheimer's disease is a progressive, degenerative brain
disorder that causes loss of memory, impaired thinking, confusion
and disorientation.
2. In the United States 5.2 million people have Alzheimer's
disease, and every seventy-one (71) seconds another American
develops the disease.
3. More than five hundred thousand (500,000) Floridians have
Alzheimer's disease or a related disorder, including eight thousand
eight hundred (8,800) in St. Lucie County.
4. Alzheimer's disease was recognized one hundred (100)
years ago with no cure yet in sight, and Florida will see a sixty-
four (64%) percent increase in the disease by the year 2025.
5. This Board values the integrity of our citizens and their
care givers who are living with the physical, financial and-
emotional burden of this devastating disease.
6. This Board extends its' gratitude to those who provide
vital care and support, including Alzheimer's Community Care, a
local community-based provider of specialized services and
resources.
7. This Board is grateful to the community, which has
embraced the mission and vision of Alzheimer's Community Care to
maintain the dignity and quality of life of those affected by the
disease.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County
Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida:
1. This Board does hereby proclaim the month of November,
2008, as "ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE AWARENESS MONTH" in St. Lucie County,
Florida.
2. This Board urges the citizens of St. Lucie County to
learn more about Alzheimer's Disease during Alzheimer's Disease
Awareness Month in St. Lucie County, Florid9..
