RESOLUTION NO. 08-209
A RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING NOVEMBER 15,
2008, AS "PHILANTHROPY DAY" IN ST.
LUCIE COUNTY, FLORIDA
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County,
Florida, has made the following determinations:
1. National Philanthropy Day (NPD), a registered trademark
with the u.S. Department of Commerce, is coordinated by the local
chapters of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP),
formerly the National Society of Fundraising Executives. Currently,
there are 197 chapters with over 30,000 members in the United States,
Canada, Mexico and Asia.
2. The first annual NPD event was held in 1986 to celebrate
the endless daily contributions individuals, corporations, and
organizations across the world make to countless causes and missions.
Last year more than 140 chapters held NPD events and activities
across North America.
3. In 1994, the local Treasure Coast Chapter covering Martin,
St. Lucie, and Indian River Counties was officially chartered with
fifteen members i and in November, 1994, held their first local
National Philanthropy Day event to honor local philanthropists and
volunteers.
With the growth of Treasure Coast non-profits and
professionals, in January, 2007, Indian River County was chartered as
a separate chapter and held their first National Philanthropy Day
event in November of that year.
4. November 15th has been designated the National permanent
date for NPD, however, the Treasure Coast Chapter holds the event at
various dates in November.
5. The 14th Annual NPD event for the Treasure Coast Chapter of
AFP will be held on Thursday, November 13, 2008, at The Tesoro Club
in Port St. Lucie, Florida.
6. The event provides an opportunity to reflect on the meaning
of giving and all that it has made possible. It's a chance to remind
local communities, society, and 'the world, that the spirit of giving
is alive and well, even in difficult times.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County
Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida:
1. This Board does hereby proclaim November 15, 2008, as
"PHILANTHROPY DAY" in st. Lucie County, Florida.
2. This Board urges the citizens of St. Lucie County to
participate in this worthwhile event to be held on Thursday, November
13, 2008, at The Tesoro Club in Port St. Lucie, Florida.
PASSED AND DULY ADOPTED this 28th day of October, 2008.
