A RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING DECEMBER 11, 2008,
AS "ENERGY AWARENESS DAY" IN ST. LUCIE COUNTY, FLORIDA
The Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida, has made the
following determinations:
WHEREAS, St. Lucie County is working to substantially increase the awareness of our
residents about the money and energy saving tips that are available to them. Educating the
community is integral in reducing the increasing demand for energy and in helping preserve our
en vironment.
WHEREAS, on December 11, 2008, fifty homes will receIve free Home Energy
Makeovers through the efforts of Florida Power and Light. The Home Energy Makeover was
created to assist residents and improve the energy efficiency of their homes, with the ultimate
goal of lowering the electric bill. Teams will outfit homes with energy-efficient upgrades and
installations valued at up to $700 per household. These upgrades can result in annual energy bill
savings of up to 25 percent.
WHEREAS, Fort Pierce Utility Authority (FPUA) in partnership with the City of Fort
Pierce Redevelopment Agency is providing conservation through Free Home Utility Inspections
and Weatherization upgrades to more than 200 low-income families in their service area.
WHEREAS, St. Lucie County is a partner in the ENERGY STAR@ Change a Light,
Change the W orId Campaign, to promote greater energy efficiency and environmental
stewardship in every household.
WHEREAS, St. Lucie County government is committed to reducing its energy
consumption through a variety of methods and to using green building methods in new and
retrofitted construction.
WHEREAS, through these efforts, citizens will be educated on energy and money
saving tips that will help in stemming the increasing demand for energy and preserving our
environment.
WHEREAS, St. Lucie County is proud to participate by promoting energy awareness
and adding energy efficiency improvements to the homes of our residents.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of
St. Lucie County, Florida:
1. This Board does hereby proclaim December 11, 2008, as "ENERGY
AWARENESS DAY" in St. Lucie County, Florida.
2. This Board further commends all those taking part in this campaign for their
dedication to providing our citizens with the knowledge and tools for improved energy
efficiency and conservation; and to encouraging individuals and families to take full advantage
of many resources available to them for Energy Conservation.
PASSED AND DULY ADOPTED this 9th day of December, 2008.
