A RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING THE WEEK OF OCTOBER 4
THROUGH OCTOBER 10, 2009 AS "MENTAL HEALTH
AWARENESS WEEK" IN ST. LUCIE COUNTY, FLORIDA
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida, has made
the following determinations:
1. Mental health is essential to everyone's overall health and well-being; and
2. Mental illness will strike nearly one in four adults and children in a given year,
regardless of age, gender, race, ethnicity, religion or economic status; and
3. An estimated two-thirds of adults and young people who have mental health
disorders are not receiving the help they need; and
4. People can recover from mental illness and lead full, productive lives in the
community; and
5. Increased public awareness of mental health issues may lead to earlier
recognition and treatment of possible mental health problems, leading to lower health care
and correctional costs, increased productivity, improved ability of children and adolescents
to learn and contribute to healthier families and communities.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of St.
Lucie County, Florida:
1. This Board does hereby proclaim October 4 through October 10, 2009 as
"MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS WEEK" in St. Lucie County, Florida.
2. This Board urges the citizens of St. Lucie County to become more aware of
mental health issues.
