HomeMy WebLinkAbout09-298 Y ~ ~m . RESOLUTION NO. 09-298 A RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING THE MONTH OF NOVEMBER, 2009, AS "ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE AWARENESS MONTH" IN ST. LUCIE COUNTY, FLORIDA WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida, has made the following determinations: 1. Alzheimer's disease is a progressive, degenerative brain disorder that causes loss of memory, impaired thinking, confusion and disorientation. 2. In the United States 5.3 million people have Alzheimer's disease, and every seventy (70) seconds another American develops the disease. 3. More than five hundred thousand (500,000) Floridians have Alzheimer's disease or a related disorder, including nine thousand one hundred four (9,104) in St. Lucie County. 4. Specialized dementia specific care will ensure that our families live within a safe and secure community, their dignity and quality of life is preserved, and that services and resources are accessible to all cultures within our communities. 6. This Board extends its' gratitude to those who provide vital care and support, including Alzheimer's Community Care, a local community-based provider of specialized services and resources. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida: 1. This Board does hereby proclaim the month of November, 2009, as "ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE AWARENESS MONTH" in St. Lucie County, Florida. 2. This Board urges the citizens of St. Lucie County to learn more about Alzheimer's Disease during Alzheimer's Disease Awareness Month in St. Lucie County, Florida.
