HomeMy WebLinkAbout10-075RESOLUTION NO. 10-075 A RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING THE WEEK OF MAY 16 THROUGH MAY 22, 2010 AS "WATER REUSE WEEK" IN ST. LUCIE COUNTY, FLORIDA WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida, has made the following determinations: 1. Safe, clean, and sustainable water resources are essential to Florida's environment, economy, citizens and visitors. 2. Florida's water supplies are finite, while our population and our need for water resources continues to increase. 3. Water reuse provides a means for conserving and augmenting Florida's precious water resources. 4. Florida has established the encouragement and promotion of water reuse as state objectives in Chapters 373 and 403, Florida Statutes. 5. Florida's permitted reuse capacity exceeds 1.4 billion gallons per day (over 58 percent of Florida's total permitted capacity for all domestic wastewater treatment facilities). 6. The State of Florida has declared the week of May 16 through May 22, 2010 to be Water Reuse Week in Florida. 7. St. Lucie County has joined with the State of Florida, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection and the South Florida Water Management District in encouraging and promoting water reuse and conservation. 8. St. Lucie County has implemented a water reuse program and encourages efficient and effective use of reclaimed water. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida: 1. This Board does hereby proclaim the week of May 16 through May 22, 2010 as "WATER REUSE WEEK" in St. Lucie County, Florida. 2. St. Lucie County is calling upon each citizen and business to help protect our precious resource by practicing water conservation and to use reclaimed water in an efficient and effective means.
