WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of 51. Luci¢ County, Florida, has mode
the following determinations:
t. Pursuant to Section 406.08, Florida Statutes, ,St. Lucie County is required to
pay o portion of the fees, salaries, and expenses of the District 19 Medical Examiner
("Medical Examiner") os well os provide autopsy and laboratory facilities to be used by the
Medical Examiner.
2. The District 19 Medical Examiner is required by Section 406.11, Florida
Statutes, to prepare and issue o Cremation Certificate indicating the cause of death for each
cremation performed in the County.
3. On October 20,1987, this Board adopted Resolution No. 87-211 imposing certain
fees and charges for services provided by the Medical Examiner, including a twenty and 0/100
dollar ($20.00) fee for the preparation and issuance of o Cremation Certificate.
4. On November 10, 1987, this Board adopted Resolution No. 87-242 which
amended the fees charged by the Medical Examiner to reduce the Cremation Certificate fee
to ten and O/t00 dollars ($10.00).
5. On August 20, 2002, this Board adopted Resolution No. 02-195 which amended
the fees charged by the Medical Examiner to increase the Cremation Certificate fee to
twenty and 0/100 dollars ($20.00).
6 The Medical Examiner has requested authorization to increase the Cremation
Certificate fee to thirty and 0/100 dollars ($30.00) in order to cover the increased costs of
cremation, dissection and burial-at-sea approval fees.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE :ZT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of St.
Lucie County, Florida:
1. Paragraph 1 of Resolution No. 87-2:[1, os amended, is hereby further amended
to read os follows:
1. The District Medical Examiner, in and for the Nineteenth
District of the State of Florida, is hereby authorized to charge
each funeral home a fee of * ..... ,-. __4 r~ ~_,,__, r~or~ ~m
thirty and 0/100 dollars ($30.00) for the preparation and
issuance of a Cremation Certificate required by Section 406.11,
Florida Statutes.
2. The increase shall take effect October 1, 2003, and shall remain in effect until
changed by further resolution of the Board of County Commissioners.
