RESOLUTION NO. 01-144
A RESOLUTION CHANGING THE NAME OF
EXPERIMENTAL STATION ROAD A/K/A
RESEARCH CENTER ROAD; LOCATED IN
SECTION 14, TOWNSHIP 35-S, RANGE 39-E
OF ST. LUCIE COUNTY, FLORIDA; TO
PRUITT RESEARCH CENTER ROAD
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida, has nade
the following detenninatiuns:
1. Section 336.05(a), Florida Statutes, authorizes the Board of County Commission rs to
name and rename streets and roads lying outside the boundaries of any incorporated munici' ,lity.
2. Florida State Senator Kenneth (Ken) Pmitt has been a dynamic and effective leade >fthe
Treasure Coast Legislative Delegation, resulting in major agricultural research and edm ation
!
benefits to the citizens of St. Lucie County. /
3. His leadership and vision has resulted in significant state funding to establish~ new
University of Florida four-year degree teaclting program at the Indian River Research and Edu,
Center, providing $3.7 million for construction and $868,000.00 recurring funds for st~
equipment and operations.
4. Senator Pmitt led the legislative effort to fund the establishment ora quarantine/re~
facility at the University of Florida Indian River Research and Education Center in Ft. Pie
develop biological control strategies for invasive exotic plants as Brazilian Pepper and Mel
There was $3.9 million appropriated for construction and $750,000 recurring funds for
operations, equipment and staffing expenses.
5. Senator Pmitt's leadership with the Treasure Coast Legislative Delegation h:
resulted in the Florida Legislature appropriating $4.6 million to construct a new aquaculture re

and extension facility at the Indian River Research and Education Center in Ft. PierCe, $100,000 for

aquaculture programming, and $198,000 for a genetic study at the U. S. Horticultural Research
Laboratory in Ft. Pierce to improve the quality of locally produced skimp.
6. This Board believes Senator Kenneth (Ken) Pmitt should be recognized )r his
outstanding contributions to the betterment of St. Lucie County by changing the n ne of
Experimental Station Road a/k/a Research Center Road, and more particularly defined accorc ing to
the attached map and more particularly described in Exhibit "A", to Pruitt Research Center ~oad.
7. Pruitt Research Center Road has been reviewed, verified and approved by the ounty
Engineer, 911, Property Acquisition Division and Community Development Department.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commission . of St.
Lucie County, Florida:
1. That certain road more paxticularly defined according to the attached map ant more
particularly described in Exhibit "A" as Experimental Station Road a/k/a Research Center R )ad, is
hereby changed to Pmitt Research Center Road.
2. The County Engineer is hereby directed to notify the appropriate utilities, the U. S. Postal
Service, the Property Appraiser, the Supervisor of Elections, the Road Department, the Sh, ~riff of
St. Lucie County and any other required departments of the name change.
