LUCIE COUNTY GREENWAYS, TRAIL~ AND BIKEWAYS PRELIMINARY MASTER WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie Cou Ihe following determinations: Florida, has made On January 9, 1990, St. Lucie County adopted the Comprehensive Plan through Ordinance 91-01. Lucie County The St. Lucie County Comprehensive Plan polices to facilitate the implementation of ecological greenways within its jurisdiction. , objectives and Lnd recreational The County has adopted policies, regulations a~ d implemented programs which provide for the protection and rvation of lands to assemble ecological greenways and recreational trail systems. St. Lucie County, the Treasure Coast Regional Planni Council and the State of Florida have worked towards the linking ecological and recreational greenway systems including the Indian Ri Lagoon, the North Fork of the St. Lucie River, the North Savar~nas, the South Savannas, and the Cypress Creek/Trail Ridge corri(Ior. On April 28 and April 29, 2000, St. Lucie Counl sponsored a Community Design Charrette to create a Greenway and Trail Master Plan. The plan identifies an ive network of greenways and trails, including existing and propos~.~d conservation areas, heritage trails, multi-purpose trails and trails. The County intends to pursue regulatory measures, programs, and facility improvement funds to irt ecological and recreational greenway network.
