A RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING SEPTEMBER 1
THROUGH SEPTEMBER 14, 2001, AS "TRY TR~
WEEK" IN ST. LUCIE COUNTY, FLORIDA
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioneri of St. Lucie
made the following determinations; and,
WHEREAS, increased public investment in transit services 1:
to create jobs and enhance business prosperity; and
WHEREAS, public transportation is vital to the quality of lif~
being of the citizens of St. Lucie County, Florida; and
WHEREAS, workers, school children, senior citizens, people
those unable to afford an automobile, use public transportation to gain ~
medical facilities, and other fundamental services; and
WHEREAS, the nation, our communities, and our citizens fe
and the environment that are brought on by automobile exhaust emis:
WHEREAS, traffic congestion that wastes productive time can
the increased availability and use of public transportation and other forn
shared-ride services; and,
WHEREAS, the Council on Aging of St. Lucie, Inc./Cot
American Public Transportation Association, the U. S. Department
Federal Transit Administration, the American Association of
Transportation Officials, the Association of Commuter Transportati
Metropolitan Planning Organizations, the National Association of £
Transportation Association of America, the National League of Cities
Association, the Surface Transportation Policy Project, and the U. S. £
have declared September 10, 2001, through September t4, 2001, to

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of C~
of St. Lucie County, Florida:
1. This Board does hereby proclaim September 10, 2001, tlr
2001, as ""TRY TRANSIT WEEK"" in St. Lucie County, Florida.
2. This Board urges the citizens of St. Lucie County to examin,
choices, to commute via transit or share the ride during "TRY TRAI~
become more active in education and advocacy efforts to promote tl
