A RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING T
MONTH OF OCTOBER, 2001, AS "DOMEST
VIOLENCE AWARENESS MONTH" IN
LUCIE COUNTY, FLORIDA
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie
the following determinations:
1. Domestic violence transcends all ethnic, racial and socioe~
perpetrators abuse their victims both physically and mentally, and the effe
reaching and weaken the very core of our communities.
2. Domestic violence is particularly devastating because it so ofte
the home, which is meant to be a place of shelter and security, and becaus,
may not realize how widespread it is.
3. Each year in the United States, approximately 1.5 million
physically assaulted by their current or former husbands, partners and/or'
as these statistics are, it is also disturbing to realize that the children of be

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board o£Co~

1. This Board does hereby proclaim the month of October,
VIOLENCE AWARENESS MONTH" in St. Lucie County, Florida.
2. This Board urges the citizens of St. Lucie County to participak
events and programs and to work toward the elimination of personal a
