WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie Cou the following determinations: ON OF THE LUDING THE 'ORATED ST. iN OF THIS ~ND FLORIDA L AID THE :H TO THEIR PROBLEMS AND HELP PROVIDE THE MEANS T~ TAKE BACK THEIR NEIGHBORHOODS AND MAKE IT A SAFE PEACE TO LIVE, The North Fort Pieme area that includes portions the City of the unincorporated County has become an unsafe and bligb with many deteriorating buildings due to age and inadequa resulting in a poor reputation for what was historically a prou< nty, Florida, has made Fort Pierce and :ed environment !e maintenance neighborhood. The North Fort Pierce area has additionally become a haven ordrug dealers and drug houses resulting in a significant increase in crime ~ncluding a high homicide rate that has included innocent victims residing in the neighborhood. / The City of Fort Pierce has taken proactive steps based upon a neighborhood charrette that has included demolishing o1~ buildings and crack houses, and putting in $4.5 million in new infrastructuri D, the major business district for this neighborhood. Law enforcement agencies including the St. Lucie Sheriff, Pierce Police Department, Drug Enforcement Agency, Fedc State Attorney's Office and others have organized a task for~ and drugs in this neighborhood.
