A RESOLUTION BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY
COMMISSIONERS, ST. LUCIE COUNTY, FLORIDA, SERVING
AS THE ST. LUCIE COUNTY EROSION DISTRICT,
REQUESTING THAT THE TRUSTEES OF THE INTERNAL
IMPROVEMENT TRUST FUND ESTABLISH AN EROSON
CONTROL LINE (FOR APPROXIMATELY 3.4 MILES) ALONG
THE SHORELINE FROM NORTH OF NORMANDY BEACH PARK
(FDEP MONUMENT R-98) TO THE ST. LUCIE/MARTIN COUNTY
LINE FOR THE SOUTH COUNTY BEACH AND DUNE
RESTORATION PROJECT; AND PROVIDING FOR AN
EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the southern shoreline of St. Lucie County from north of
Normandy Beach Park (FDEP monument R-98) to the St. Lucie/Martin County
Line continues to severely erode resulting in minimal beach width; and
WHEREAS, a large beach profile provides improved shore protection to
upland properties and recreational benefits for the residents and the general
public; and
WHEREAS, the proposed South County Beach and Dune Restoration
project is consistent with the recommendations of the State's Strategic Beach
Management Plan;
WHEREAS, St. Lucie County, acting as local sponsor propose to
renourish approximately 3.4 miles of shoreline from north of Normandy Beach
Park (FDEP monument R-98) to the St. Lucie/Martin County Line with sand from
an offshore borrow source or upland sand source; and
WHEREAS, Chapter 161, Florida Statutes, requires that an Erosion
Control Line be established prior to the construction of the South County Beach
and Dune Restoration Project to delineate the boundary between the upland
properties and State-owned submerged land.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Erosion District Board of
St. Lucie County, Florida, as follows:
1. The Board requests that the Trustees of the Internal Improvement
Trust Fund approve and establish an Erosion Control Line on the
shoreline (for approximately 3.4 miles) from north of Normandy Beach
Park (FDEP Monument R-98) to the St. Lucie/Martin County line.
2. This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
