HomeMy WebLinkAbout12-131RESOLUTION NO. 12-131 A RESOLUTION ESTABLISHING THE PROCEDURES FOR DISPLAYING THE FLAG OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA AT COUNTY FACILITIES ON MEMORIAL DAY; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida, has made the following determinations: 1. In observation of Memorial Day on the last Monday of May, all County offices are closed in remembrance of those who have given their lives in service to the country. 2. Specific guidelines for the display of the flag of the United States of America on Memorial Day are set forth in Title 4, United States Code, Sections 6 and 7. 3. As County staff is not available to raise and lower the flag on Memorial Day in accordance with federal guidelines, it is appropriate for this Board to establish procedures for the display of the flag on Memorial Day as recommended by the St. Lucie County Veterans Advisory Council. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida: 1. This Board does hereby establish the following procedures for the display of the flag of the United States of America at County facilities on Memorial Day: A. On the Friday before Memorial Day, flags shall be lowered to half-staff. B. On the Tuesday following Memorial Day, flags shall be raised to full staff. 2. This resolution shall take effect upon adoption. After motion and second, the vote on this Resolution was as follows: Chairman Tod Mowery AYE Vice Chair Paula A.
