A RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING THE MONTH OF OCTOBER
2012 AS "PINK TIE FRIEND, INC. BREAST CANCER
AWARENESS MONTH" tN ST. LUCIE COUNTY, FLORIDA
WHEREAS, the Board ofCounty Commissioners ofSt. Lucie County, Florida, has made the following
determinations:
1. Breast cancer claims the life of almost 40,000 women a year in the United States.
October 2012 is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
National Breast Cancer Awareness Month is a platform for educating women and men
about the importance of early detection of breast cancer through mammography and
other methods.
4. Detection of breast cancer at an early stage greatly improves the chances for successful
treatment and survival.
5. Pink Tie Friends, Inc., a 501-c-3 not-for-profit charitable organization of local volunteers
raise funds so breast cancer patients who have no insurance or are under insured may
receive treatment for their illness once it has been discovered and diagnosed.
6. The untiring efforts of Pink Tie Friends, Inc. and their many supporters also raises
awareness ofthe need forscreening and prompt treatment of breast cancer in women and
men.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County,
Florida:
1. This Board does hereby proclaim the month of October 2012 as "PINK TIE FRIEND, INC.
BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH" in St. Lucie County, Florida.
This Board urges the citizens of St. Lucie County to get the facts about mammography and
do commend this observance to our citizens, Pink Tie Friends, Inc., volunteers, and health
care providers and agencies throughout St. Lucie County, Florida.
PASSED AND DULY ADOPTED this 2nd day of October 2012.
