A RESOLUTION ACKNOWLEDGING THE RESULTS OF THE
ELECTION HELD ON NOVEMBER 6, 2012 ON THE
PROPOSITION CALLING FOR ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
AD VALOREM TAX EXEMPTIONS FOR ST. LUCIE COUNTY,
FLORIDA; RENEWING THE EXEMPTION FOR AN
ADDITIONAL 10 YEAR PERIOD BEGINNING NOVEMBER 6,
2012
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners ofSt. Lucie County, Florida, has made the following
determinations:
1. Section 196.1995, Florida Statutes, provides that the Board of County Commissioners may
hold a referendum to allow the voters to determine whether to grant authority for economic development
ad valorem tax exemptions to new and expanding businesses in St. Lucie County under Section 3, Article
VII of the State Constitution; and
2. On October 6, 1992, the Board adopted Ordinance No. 92-24 which established the
Economic Development Ad Valorem Tax Exemption program in St. Lucie County. This Ordinance took effect
only upon approval by the voters on November 3,1992 of the ballot question authorized by Resolution No.
92-175. This Ordinance does not contain an expiration date; and
3. On November 3,1992, the County voters approved the proposition by a vote of 32,127 FOR
and 25,720 AGAINST; and
4. On November 5, 2002, the Countyvoters approved the proposition by a vote of41,077 FOR
and 21,426 AGAINST; and
5. Section 196.1995(7), Florida Statutes, provides that the authority to grant ad valorem tax
exemptions will expire 10 years after the date such authority was approved in an election but that the
authority may be renewed for an additional 10 year period if approved by County voters in a referendum;
and
6. On February 7, 2012, the Board adopted Resolution No.12-011 directing an election to be
held to provide for the placement of a proposition on the November 6, 2012 general election ballot calling
for economic development ad valorem tax exemptions for St. lucie County; and
7. On November 6, 2012, the County voters approved the proposition by a vote of 56,752 FOR
and 54,711 AGAINST.
Florida:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the ~Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County,
1. Based on the results of the November 6, 2012 election, County Ordinance 92-24, as
amended, "Economic Development Ad Valorem Tax Exemption Regulations of St. Lucie County, Florida"
shall remain in effect from November 6, 2012 through November 5, 2022.
2. This Resolution shall be effective on November 6, 2012.
