HomeMy WebLinkAbout13-067RESOLUTION NO. 13-067 A RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING THE WEEK OF MAY 12-18, 2013 AS "LAW ENFORCEMENT WEEK"; AND DESIGNATING MAY 15, 2013 AS "LAW ENFORCEMENT MEMORIAL DAY" IN ST. LUCIE COUNTY, FLORIDA WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida, has made the following determinations: 1. The Congress and President of the U.S. have designated May 15, 2013 as Peace Officers' Memorial Day and the week in which it falls as Law Enforcement Week. 2. The St. Lucie County Sheriffs Office has been constituted by the State of Florida to uphold the laws and play an essential role in safeguarding the rights and freedoms of the citizens of St. Lucie County. 3. It is important that all citizens know and understand the problems, duties, and responsibilities of their law enforcement agencies, and that members of our Sheriff's Office recognize their duty to serve the people by safeguarding life and property, by protecting them against violence or disorder, and by protecting the innocent against deception and the weak against oppression or intimidation. 4. The men and women of the law enforcement agencies of St. Lucie County unceasingly provide a vital public service. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida: 1. This Board does hereby proclaim May 12-18, 2013 as "LAW ENFORCEMENT WEEK" in St. Lucie County and calls upon all citizens and upon all patriotic, civic, and educational organizations to observe that week with appropriate ceremonies commemorating law enforcement and detention deputies, past and present, who by their faithful and loyal devotion to their responsibilities have rendered a dedicated service to their communities, and in so doing, have established for themselves an enviable and enduring reputation for preserving the rights and security of all citizens. 2. This Board further encourages all citizens to observe May 15, 2013 as "LAW ENFORCEMENT MEMORIAL DAY" in honor of those law enforcement officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their community or have lost their lives or become disabled in the performance of their duty, and let us recognize and pay respect to the survivors of our fallen heroes.
