A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF
ST. LUCIE COUNTY, FLORIDA, REQUESTING STAFF INITIATE
AMENDMENTS TO THE PORT OF FORT PIERCE MASTER PLAN TO
PURSUE STATE FUNDING FOR POTENTIAL INFRASTRUCTURE
PROJECTS RECOMMENDED BY THE HARBOR ADVISORY BOARD
FOR THE PORT OF FORT PIERCE
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County recognizes
the importance of the Port of Fort Pierce to the economy of St. Lucie County; and
WHEREAS, full development of an operational port is dependent upon
modern, efficient water front infrastructure necessary to accommodate port related
economic activity; and
WHEREAS, the Board supports development of a port plan identifying
infrastructure that will qualify for state funds to expedite port development.
NOW THEREFORE, the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County,
Florida finds and determines:
1. Section 163.3178 (2)(k), Florida Statutes, requires all recognized deepwater
ports in the State of Florida to prepare a master plan to be submitted to the
appropriate local government for inclusion within that government's locally
adopted comprehensive plan.
2. Since the Port Planning Area covered by this Master Plan includes property
within the incorporated and unincorporated area of the County, the
appropriate local government is St. Lucie County.
3. St. Lucie County is working in partnership with the Florida Department of
Transportation and the City of Fort Pierce to update the Master Plan for the
Port of Fort Pierce.
4. A Joint Board Meeting between the City of Fort Pierce and St. Lucie County
was held on August 29, 2013. At that meeting, the Board directed the City
and County Staff to develop a list of infrastructure projects for inclusion in the
Port Master Plan policy document.
5. Based upon a review of the Infrastructure Plan recommended by the
FDOT/AECOM Team Draft Report, the City and County Staff, the Harbor
Advisory Committee has recommended the following short list of projects for
consideration:
a. Fisherman's Wharf
b. Harbor Pointe Shoreline Protection
c. Refurbish City Marina Bulkheads
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County
Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida:
1. This Board requests County staff to initiate amendments to the Port of Fort
Pierce Master Plan to consider including infrastructure projects as
recommended by the Harbor Advisory Committee.
