A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY
COMMISSIONERS OF ST. LUCIE COUNTY FLORIDA
DIRECTING AN ELECTION TO BE HELD TO PROVIDE
FOR THE PLACEMENT OF A PROPOSAL CALLING FOR
THE REAUTHORIZATION OF THE CHILDREN'S
SERVICES COUNCIL OF ST. LUCIE COUNTY ON THE
NOVEMBER 4, 2014 GENERAL ELECTION BALLOT.
WHEREAS, the Children's Services Council of St. Lucie County was established
pursuant to Section 125.901, Florida Statutes and St. Lucie County Ordinance 90-41
was approved by the voters of St. Lucie County during the election of October 2,
1990;
WHEREAS, the Children's Services Council of St. Lucie County has been a
valuable resource in providing much needed services to cover over 30,000 children
and families of St. Lucie County last year, in furthering their mission: "To improve the
quality of life for all children of St. Lucie County";
WHEREAS, the many programs that the Children's Services Council of St.
Lucie County has funded, which have made a positive impact on the community,
include the Boys and Girls Club, Big Brothers Big Sisters, YMCA, the Avenue D Boys
and Girls Choir, Project Rock, Healthy Start, and 48 more;
WHEREAS, due in part to the efforts and support of the Children's Services
Council of St. Lucie County, St. Lucie County has seen a decrease in juvenile crime,
infant mortality, youth substance abuse, and the high school dropout rate;
WHEREAS, Section 125.901(4) Florida Statutes requires that every Children's
Services Council in the State must seek voter approval to be reauthorized or
dissolved; and
WHEREAS, the Children's Services Council of St. Lucie County has requested
that the attached ballot language be submitted to the electorate; and
WHEREAS, should the electorate vote to dissolve the Children's Services
Council of St. Lucie County the effective date of said dissolution shall be September
30, 2015; and
WHEREAS, a yes vote on the ballot will reauthorize the Children's Services
Council of St. Lucie County and fulfill the requirements of Section 125.901(4), Florida
Statutes; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE ST. LUCIE COUNTY BOARD
OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF ST. LUCIE COUNTY, FLORIDA THAT:
1. This Board does hereby direct the Supervisor of Elections to place on the
November 4, 2014 General Election Ballot the following proposition to be
voted upon by the electors of St. Lucie County:

Reauthorization of the Children's Services Council of St. Lucie County
The Children's Services Council is an independent special district
approved by voters in 1990 and since that time has provided preventative,
development, treatment, rehabilitation and other services for children in St.
Lucie County.
Shall the Children's Services Council of St. Lucie County be reauthorized
to continue in existence, unless it is dissolved by either the Board of County
Commissioners or by a special act of the Florida Legislature?

After a motion and second, the vote on this Resolution was as follows:
