A RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING THE WEEK OF MAY 5-12, 2014 AS
"SCOUTING -ANEW WAY OF LIFE WEEK" AND WEDNESDAY, MAY 7, 2014 AS
"BOY SCOUT VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION DAY" IN ST. LUCIE COUNTY, FLORIDA
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida, has made the
following determinations:
1. On Wednesday, May 7, 2014, an evening to show appreciation for volunteers of all ages
involved with Boy Scouts in St. Lucie County will be hosted by the Van Duzer Foundation and held
at Big Apple Pizza, raising awareness and funding for all Boy Scout troops in St. Lucie County.
2. St. Lucie County has shown a commitment to helping find positive alternatives for youth,
particularly adolescent boys in our community, and providing opportunities for service, learning,
skill-building, and personal and professional enhancement.
3. Scout Troop 772 is growing and providing positive after-school and growth opportunities
for at least 67 area teenage boys, ages 11-14.
4. The leadership of Troop 772 has created unique and dynamic volunteer and community
service opportunities for at-risk youth in the community and continues to grow in both number
of skilled volunteer leadership and enthusiastic participation.
5. The scholastic performance and behaviour of the young men involved in Troop 772 have
shown marked improvement since the Troop's inception in December 2013.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie
County, Florida:
1. This Board does hereby proclaim the week of May 5-12, 2014 as "Scouting - a New Way
of life Week" and Wednesday, May 7, 2014, as "Boy Scout Volunteer Appreciation Day" in St.
Lucie County, Florida.
2. This Board recognizes Scott Van Duzer and members of the Van Duzer Foundation Board
of Directors, as well asthe volunteer leadership of Troop 772, fortheir generous and philanthropic
community service.
3. This Board hereby urges the citizens of St. Lucie County, Florida to participate in the "Boy
Scout Volunteer Appreciation Day" in order to help show appreciation for volunteers involved in
Scouting and raise funds for all Boy Scout Troops in St. Lucie County, Florida.
4. This Board hereby requests the cooperation of the news media -radio, television,
newspapers and social media - to publicize this resolution.
PASSED AND DULY ADOPTED this 6`h day of May, 2014.
