A RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING THE WEEK OF MAY 4-10, 2014 AS "NORTH AMERICAN
OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH WEEK" AND WEDNESDAY, MAY 7, 2014 TO BE KNOWN AS
"OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH PROFESSIONAL DAY" IN ST. LUCIE COUNTY, FLORIDA
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida, has made the
following determinations:
1. The residents of St. Lucie County, Florida value safe and healthful workplaces for all of our
citizens.
2. The majority of workplace injuries and fatalities are preventable; however, more than 4,500
workers die each year from job related injuries, and millions more suffer occupational injuries and
illnesses.
3. Safer organizations enjoy increased productivity, higher employee satisfaction, and a better
reputation, while recording less lost time, and lower workers' compensation and healthcare costs.
4. During the week of May 4-10, 2014, North American Occupational Safety and Health Week
(NAOSH), the American Society of Safety Engineers, the Occupational Safety and Health
Administration (OSHA), governmental and corporate partners representingthousands ofbusinesses
will mobilize in an effort to increase employer, employee and public awareness of being safe at work
to encourage safe practices; to help companies and organizations enhance their workplace safety
efforts.
5. On May 7, 2014, occupational safety and health professions will be recognized on
Occupational Safety and Health Professional Day for their commitment to protect people, property,
and the environment at work, and in their communities.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie
County, Florida:
1. This Board does hereby proclaim the week of May 4-10, 2014, as "NORTH AMERICAN
OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH WEEK" and Wednesday, May 7, 2014 as "OCCUPATIONAL
SAFETY AND HEALTH PROFESSIONAL DAY" in St. Lucie County, Florida.
2. This Board encourages all industries, organizations, community leaders, employers and
employees to support activities designed to increase awareness of the importance of a safe
workplace for all.
PASSED AND DULY ADOPTED this 6`h day of May 2014.
