A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF ST. LUCIE COUNTY, FLORIDA
CONGRATULATING THE FORT PIERCE LITTLE LEAGUE'S INTERMEDIATE
50-70 TEAM ON WINNING THE FLORIDA DISTRICT 17 CHAMPIONSHIP
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida, has made the
following determinations:
In 1938, a man named Carl Stotz hit upon the idea for an organized baseball league for the
boys in his hometown of Williamsport, Pennsylvania. After talking with his friends in the
community, they came up with aname -Little League. The idea was to provide a wholesome
program of baseball as a way to teach them the ideals of sportsmanship, fair play and teamwork.
2. From those humble beginnings, Little League Baseball has become the world's largest
organized youth sports program where the basic goal is to give the children of the world a game
that provides fundamental principles they can use later in life to become good citizens.
3. The Fort Pierce Little League, founded in 1972, serves children 5-18 who play T-ball,
baseball and girls' softball in the Fort Pierce area.
4. Fort Pierce Little League is part of the Florida Little League District 17, which encompasses
St. Lucie, Indian River, Martin and Okeechobee counties.
5. The Fort Pierce Little League's Intermediate 50-70 team, consisting of 9-10 year olds, won
the Florida District 17 Championship on Monday, July 1, 2014 in Jensen Beach defeating Martin
County South in the final game and went on to the Tournament of State Champions in Greenville,
North Carolina and finished 1-2.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie
County, Florida:
1. This Board does hereby congratulate the Fort Pierce Little League's Intermediate 50-70
team on winning the Florida District 17 Championship and recognizes their spirit and
determination that got them so far.
2. This Board also commends the team's families, coaches, and community for their support
and dedication to enabling the success of the team on and off the field.
