Dr. Dontavies L. Doatwri~ht
Dr. Dontavies L. Boatwright was born on May 26, 1978 in St. Lucie
County. He graduated from Fort Pierce Central High and was an active
participant in the music department. Dr. Boatwright later started a gospel
community group in St. Lucie County known as the Rejoicing Angels. Dr.
Boatwrightfurtheredhls education in music and received his Doctorate degree
in Religious Philosophy in Theology, graduating with honors from the
Jacksonville Theology Seminary. -
Dr. Boatwright was a community activist and well known minister in St.
Lucie County, Production Director of Community Gospel Outreach, Chaplin of
the Gospel Announcers Guild of the Gospel`Music Workshop of America, Co-
Host ofthe Sunday Retreat, Chief Operations Officer of B&B Management and
Production Inc.
Dr. Boatwright has toured with and been featured in manygospel stage
plays. In 2009, he audition for the BET Television series "Sunday Best" and
made it to the top 5, which enabled him to be a sought after psalmist, music
director, and classically trained singer. He was known to the world as the
Pavarotti of gospel, which was named by Grammy award winner Kirk Franklin.
He released his single "Glory toGlory-Sunday Best Medley" in September and
had plans to release his debut album in 2013.
Sadly, Dr. Boatwright, died Thursday; November 8, 2012 at age 34 in
Jacksonville, Florida. Dr. Boatwright shared his gift with not only St. Lucie
County, but with the world. To continue his legacy, his family has established
a scholarship in his name that will be presented at the annual memorial
concert on November 8, 2014. St. Lucie County recognizes Dr. Dontavies L.
Boatwright for his achievements~and contributions to St. Lucie County.
