A RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING THE MONTH OF NOVEMBER 2014 AS
"ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE AWARENESS MONTH" IN ST. LUCIE COUNTY, FLORIDA
WHEREAS, the Board ofCounty Commissioners ofSt. Lucie County, Florida, has made the
following determinations:
1. Alzheimer's disease is a public health crisis.
Z. Florida has 10% of the nation's population that is suffering with a neurocognitive disorder.
3. Nearly 3.8million family care giversinFlorida help their senior family members who have
aneurocognitive disorder.
4. 9,440 families live in St. Lucie County who must cope with the disease process daily.
5. It is important that the safety and well-being of Alzheimer's families living in our local
communities be preserved, as well as their dignity and quality of life, and that services and
resources are accessible toall cultures.
8. This Board extends its gratitude to those advocates and service providers, including
Alzheimer's Community Care and the Alzheimer's Association Southeast Florida Chapter,
who provide vital care and support, value the need for dementia -specific care, and support
Alzheimer's families, aswell asacure for Alzheimer's patients,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE ITRESOLVED 6vthe Board ofCounty Commissioners ofSt. Lucie
County, Florida:
This Board does hereby proclaim the month of November 2014 as "ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE
AWARENESS MONTH" in St. Lucie County, Florida.
2. This Board urges the citizens of St. Lucie County to learn more about Alzheimer's Disease
and attend educational events that are free and open to the public during Alzheimer's
Disease Awareness Month in St. Lucie County, Florida.
