A RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING APRIL 7, 2015
AS
"NATIONAL DAY OF SERVICE RECOGNITION" IN ST. LUCIE COUNTY, FLORIDA
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida, has made the
following determinations:
1. Participants who volunteer through the County, and other programs like AmeriCorps,
Senior Corps, and others address the most pressing challenges facing our communities and nation,
from educating students forjobs of the 21st century and supporting veterans and military families
to providing health services and helping communities recover from natural disasters.
2. Volunteers of the St. Lucie County Board of County Commissioners gave back to our
community last year a total of 81,514 hours, which translates to a value of $1.7 million.
3. These volunteers in total hours are the equivalent of 39 full-time employees working in
areas from Libraries to Advisory Boards, from Lagoon Clean Ups to Master Gardeners.
4. In addition to County volunteers, AmeriCorps and Senior Corps participants served in more
than 60,000 locations across the country, including 12 in St. Lucie County, bolstering the civic,
neighborhood, and faith -based organizations that are so vital to our county's economic and social
well-being.
5. More than 22 national service participants of all ages and backgrounds serve in St. Lucie
County, providing vital support to county residents and improving the quality of life in our county.
6. National service participants increase the impact of the organizations they serve, both
through their direct service and by managing millions of additional volunteers.
7. National service represents a unique public-private partnership that invests in community
solutions and leverages non-federal resources to strengthen community impact and increase the
return on taxpayer dollars; including more than $421,000 in our community.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie
County, Florida:
1. This Board does hereby proclaim April 7, 2015 as "NATIONAL DAY OF SERVICE RECOGNITION"
in St. Lucie County, Florida and encourages residents to recognize the positive impact of
volunteering and national service in our county and thank those who serve; and to find ways to
give back to their communities.
