A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING LARRY J. LEE FOR HIS WORK IN PUBLIC HEALTH PROTECTING
THE HEALTH AND SAFETY OF THE PEOPLE OF FLORIDA AND ST. LUCIE COUNTY, FLORIDA
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida, has made the
following determinations:
1. During the first full week in April of each year, the American Public Health Association
brings together communities across the United States to observe National Public Health Week as
a time to recognize the contributions of public health.
2. This National Public Health Week, we recognize and offer a tribute to a Public Health
Champion, Larry J. Lee for his passion and tenacious leadership while managing the day-to-day
operations of the St. Lucie County Health Department and overseeing family and community
health services to include environmental health and prevention and control of infectious disease.
3. Mr. Lee joined the Florida Department of Health in St. Lucie County in 1996 as the Human
Resources Manager. He served as deputy administrator and was appointed administrator of the
Florida Department of Health in St. Lucie County in 2005 and served in this capacity until his
passing on Friday, February 27, 2015.
4. One of Mr. Lee'sgreatest accomplishments in the countywas his contribution in advocating
for internal and external HIV prevention and intervention programs. As a result, our overall HIV
infection rate has dropped below the state's overall rate. In addition, his efforts contributed to
St. Lucie schools adding a health curriculum "Get real about AIDS".
5. He was a founder in opening a free clinic - the Health Access Network Delivery System
(HANDS) in October 2010, a medical care facility for the uninsured, low income residents of St.
Lucie County.
6. Due to the untiring dedication of Larry J. Lee to St. Lucie County, this Board believes that
a tribute should be given in his honor.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, in a meeting assembled this 31st day of March 2015,
the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida, does hereby honor LarryJ. Lee for
his years of faithful service to the St. Lucie County Health Department, his passion as an advocate
for public health and for exemplifying outstanding citizenship through his major contributions to
St. Lucie County by dedicating and naming the St. Lucie County Health Department building on
Milner Road in Fort Pierce as the "Larry J. Lee Public Health Building" in St. Lucie County, Florida.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie
County, Florida that this Board does hereby recognize and appreciate the passion and leadership
of Larry J. Lee in the field of public health in St. Lucie County, Florida.
PASSED AND DULY ADOPTED this 31St day of March 2015.
