HomeMy WebLinkAbout15-070RESOLUTION NO. 15-070 A RESOLUTION NAMING TWO NEW BASEBALL FIELDS AT JOHN B. PARKS REGIONAL SPORTS COMPLEX AS THE VINCENT CARLESI, SR. BASEBALL FIELD AND THE VINCENT PICA BASEBALL FIELD TO HONOR BOTH GENTLEMAN'S EFFORTS TO BRING FLORIDA COAST SPRING TRAINING BASEBALL (VINNY BALL) AND MAJOR ECONOMIC IMPACT TO ST. LUCIE COUNTY, FLORIDA WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida, has made the following determinations: 1. The creation of two new baseball fields at John B. Parks Regional Sports Complex is a true economic development project, which grew out of the popularity of the "Spring Training" camps conducted at the sports complex for the last 35 years by Vincent Carlesi Sr. and Vincent Pica. 2. Every year, from February to early April, the baseball camps have brought thousands of teams, coaches and families from colleges, universities and high schools nationwide to St. Lucie County and have resulted in significant positive local economic impact. 3. The addition of the two new fields and stadium seating will increase participation by 24 teams and bring in more Division II college teams. 4. The influx of students, families and coaches will have a significant, positive economic impact on our local businesses, hotels and restaurants. The expansion will result in a total economic impact of $4.5 million dollars annually. 5. During the remainder of the year, the two new fields will expand opportunities for local youth through high school play and tournaments. 6. With new fields and support from the Treasure Coast Sports Commission, the County will continue to attract more teams from around the nation. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida: 1. This Board does hereby recognize Mr. Vincent Carlesi, Sr. and Mr. Vincent Pica for their efforts to bring Florida Coast Spring Training baseball to St. Lucie County, Florida for the past 35 years and name the two new fields in their honor. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution shall be presented to Mr. Carlesi, Sr. and Mr. Vincent Pica as a token of this Board's appreciation.
