HomeMy WebLinkAbout15-090RESOLUTION NO. 15-090 A RESOLUTION HONORING JACK SOUTHARD FOR HIS FAITHFULAND DEDICATED SERVICE TO THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF ST. LUCIE COUNTY, FLORIDA AND FOR HIS OUTSTANDING LEADERSHIP THROUGH HIS MAJOR CONTRIBUTIONS TO ST. LUCIE COUNTY'S PUBLIC SAFETY DEPARTMENT BY DEDICATING AND NAMING THE ENTRANCE ROAD TO THE EMERGENCY OPEATIONS CENTER AS "JACK SOUTHARD WAY" IN ST. LUCIE COUNTY, FLORIDA WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida, has made the following determinations: 1. Jack Southard began his employment with St. Lucie County in 1975 as a 911 dispatcher with the St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office. In 1981, he was hired by the Board of County Commissioners as a 911 Communications Watch Commander and promoted to the Public Safety Director in 1982. 2. Jack has efficiently, competently, and untiringly served this Board, and the citizens of St. Lucie County for nearly 41 years to further the public good by working towards the protection and safety of this County. Jack has also been a committed Reserve Deputy for the St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office since 1982. 3. During his tenure with the County, Jack was instrumental in bringing forth the first unified 911 Communications Center to St Lucie County in 1981. Over the many years, Jack was incident commander for twelve (12) Hurricanes and Tropical Storms, eight (8) of which were direct hits to the County which received presidential declarations of emergency. Notable achievements under Jack's tenure include the implementation of the first 800MHz radio system in 2000, multiple 911 Computer Aided Dispatch systems, and construction of two Emergency Operation Centers, one in 1986 and the second in 2009. 4. Due to the untiring dedication of Jack Southard to St. Lucie County, this Board believes that Mr. Southard should be honored in a very special way. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida: 1. This Board does hereby honor Jack Southard for his 41 years of faithful service to the Department of Public Safety and Communications and the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida and for exemplifying outstanding citizenship through his major contributions to Public Safety, by dedicating and naming the entrance road to the Emergency Operations Center as "Jack Southard Way" in St. Lucie County, Florida. A copy of this resolution shall be presented to Jack Southard as a token of this Board's appreciation. PASSED AND DULY ADOPTED this 19th day of May, 2015.
