A RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING NOVEMBER 16-22, 2014 AS "NATIONAL HUNGER AND
HOMELESSNESS COLLABORATIVE AWARENESS WEEK" IN ST. LUCIE COUNTY, FLORIDA
WHEREAS,the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida, has madethe
following determinations:
1. Hunger and poverty are issues of grave concern in the United States, the State of
Florida, the Treasure Coast and St. Lucie County.
2. Homeless Family Center provides Emergency and Transitional Shelter for homeless
families from Indian River, St. Lucie, Martin, and Okeechobee Counties. The 4th Street
facility can accommodate ten families in the Emergency Shelter and eleven families
in the Transitional Shelter which translates into a total of 72 individuals that they may
house on any given day.
3. Homeless Family Center has created a Collaborative Awareness Week with the three
Indian River County non -profits, including Camp Haven, The Source, and the
Samaritan Center.
4. St. Lucie County is committed to taking steps to raise awareness about the need to
combat hunger in every part of our County and to provide additional resources that
citizens of St. Lucie County need.
5. St. Lucie County is committed to working to educate people about the role and
importance of food banks in addressing hunger and raising awareness of the need
to devote more resources and attention to hunger and homeless issues.
6. Food banks across the country will host numerous events throughout the month of
November to bring awareness and attention to encourage involvement in efforts to
end hunger in their local community.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie
County, Florida that this Board does hereby proclaim the week of November 16 through 22, 2014
as "NATIONAL HUNGER AND HOMELESSNESS COLLABORATIVE AWARENESS WEEK" in St. Lucie
County, Florida and call this observance to the attention of our citizens.
PASSED AND DULY ADOPTED this 18th day of November 2014.
