A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING SOUTHEAST FLORIDA HONOR FLIGHT FOR THEIR CONTINUED
DEDICATION TO AND SERVICE OF VETERANS IN ST. LUCIE COUNTY, FLORIDA
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida, has made the
following determinations:
1. The Honor Flight Network was created in 2005 and the Southeast Florida Honor Flight was
founded in 2009, consisting of 141 hubs (chapters) in 43 states.
2. Over 16 million men and women served during World War II, and in 2015, an estimated
855,000 are still alive.
3. The median age of World War II Veterans is 95 years of age.
4. Over 26,000 veterans die each and every day.
5. The Honor Flight Network has flown over 150,000 United States Veterans to Washington,
D.C. to visit the memorials created to honor them. Southeast Florida Honor Flight has
flown over 2,500 World War II and Korean War Veterans to Washington, D.C., since 2009.
6. Over 100 dedicated volunteers staff and serve the veterans involved with the Southeast
Florida Honor Flight Program. Southeast Florida Honor Flight has no paid staff and acts as
entirely volunteer organization.
7. Veterans who have patriotically and faithfully served our country and have sacrificed to
fight for our country's freedom and right for a democratic society are deserving of the
recognition and gratitude of this community.
8. July is the month during which the United States chooses to celebrate its independence,
freedom and the Constitution, which provides for its citizens right to life, liberty, and the
pursuit of happiness.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie
County, Florida:
1. This Board does hereby commend and express sincere appreciation to the honorable
veterans of our community, particularly those whose bravery and service in World War II and the
Korean War helped ensure our country's freedom, and hereby recognize Southeast Florida Honor
Flight for its continued dedication to and service of the veterans of St. Lucie County.
